Here's my review of Happy Feet! I saw pretty much everything except the first half hour and this is my opinion.

Okay. So. I never think it's a good idea to animate an animal with extremely limited movement. Except when they are sliding on their bellies or swimming, the whole thing seems pretty clumsy to me. Also, if you're going to animate penguins, give them some sort of look other than the look of real penguins. They were pretty scary looking and it's hard to get real looking animals to convey a lot of emotion. They just come off as creepy. I liked the overfishing message A LOT. A LOT A LOT A LOT. But, it wasn't really clear and I don't think that they stressed the fact that it's a real problem, especially since it was fixed in the movie. If people see that it's fixed in the film, then they'll think it's really fixed. Which it isn't. It's pretty awful. And I don't think it was addressed well because it's never really said like OH OVERFISHING IN THE WATERS. It's just like aahh fishing. Stop. It could have been done much better. Also, I hate when movies display other animals as awful villians because they eat other animals. All animals eat other animals. Don't make the Seal a giant awful nasty guy because he eats penguins. I don't know. It's just annoying to me.

And I thought that the scene where he's in the zoo was INSANE. Holy shit who wrote that. I like don't know if I loved it or was just depressed by it. Also, the mixing of real people and cartoons was a little freaky in this case.

But uh I think it would have been so much better if they had been more stylized and not just real penguins. Also, where Mumble catches a fish and gives it to Gloria she made some weird noises like to pick it up that kind of freaked me out. I dunno. It just wasn't my thing.

I liked the songs though. I think also the elders or whatever could have made more sense other than TAPDANCING IS EVIL AND KILLS FISH. Like maybe something ridiculous, but at least some sort of reason.
